SUMMARY
Reporting to the General Manager, the Sales Representative will be responsible for representing the company in the field, primarily managing the business relationship between customers and the company. The position will be responsible for an assigned territory and must keep in contact with all points of influence to optimize sales of the assigned company.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Presents, promotes and sells products using sales/promotional techniques for existing and prospective customers.
- Performs cost-benefit analyses of existing and potential customers.
- Establishes, develops and maintains positive business and customer relationships.
- Develops and implements strategies for sales in assigned area/region.
- Maintains a database of current customers, prospective customers and influencers within assigned area of responsibility.
- Identifies and locates new sales opportunities through a variety of methods including networking and cold calls; works with management regarding market value and pricing strategies.
- Ensures accurate processing of customer orders, logistics, contracts and payments in collaboration with operations staff.
- Ensures Credit team is apprised/updated with activity in the marketplace, i.e., dairies & Beef/relationships with other dairies & Beef ranches, and reviews credit history with company and compares to other feed companies.
- Logistics – ensures product order is updated and accurate to ensure timely delivery of product at the correct location; follows up with appropriate personnel as needed and required.
- Customer service – prepares contracts and submits orders; ensures timely entry of orders in accordance with company policy and protocol.
- Operate our VMI (computer ordering service).
- Generates leads and calls on prospective and existing customers in order to drive product sales and company awareness.
- Develops and builds solid working relationships within customer base and nutrition influencers within assigned sales territory.
- Investigates customer complaints and provides timely follow-up with customers to resolve matters quickly and in the most appropriate manner.
- Tracks all sales activities and prepares and submits sales reports on a regular basis.
- Work closely with other sales reps within the Nutrius business units.
- Communicate feedback to purchasing, formulations, production & quality department.
- Special projects and/or other related duties as assigned
Knowledge of:
- The dairy industry
- Effective communication, delivery methods and sales strategies
- Dairy/beef cattle nutrition
- Scheduling/logistics – coordinating between sales, customers, and production to ensure delivery schedules are met
- Give sales presentations to a range of prospective clients
- Travel frequently to meet with clients or potential clients; Will require overnight stays
- Find potential customers through networking, cold calling, and industry research to increase sales
- Communicate effectively with all internal and external customers
- Build and maintain positive working relationships
- Complete administrative tasks, such as processing and recording sales, as needed
- High school graduate or equivalent
- At least two (2) years’ sales experience
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to make presentations
- Highly self-motivated; proven ability to successfully manage customer relationships
- Detail-oriented and thorough; strong organizational abilities
- Time management and prioritization skills in order to meet deadlines and close sales in a timely manner
- Willingness to adapt and assist with implementing new marketing strategies and sales methods
- Computer skills (MS Office, Excel, & VMI)
- Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record
Physical and mental requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Some mechanical ability preferred
- Frequent decision-making and concentration
- Prolonged periods of sitting
- Frequent public contact
- Able to travel frequently to meet with clients or potential clients, which will include overnight stays, weekends and holidays
- Field based to meet with clients in various indoor/outdoor environments
